VanEck Files to Launch Avalanche ETF on Nasdaq
Nasdaq Stock Market filed with SEC an official document to trade shares of the VanEck Avalanche Trust exchange-traded fund that gives investors indirect AVAX cryptocurrency access.
John Zecca from Nasdaq submitted the filing to SEC under Rule 5711(d) standards for commodity-based trust fund listing. When the SEC approves the VanEck Avalanche ETF, it will enable clients to trade AVAX similar to stocks directly through their brokerage accounts without managing digital tokens themselves.
VanEck to Sponsor Avalanche ETF Trust
The application states that VanEck Digital Assets will serve as sponsor and will select a professional vault operator to safeguard the AVAX tokens held in trust. Through the ETF, investors can track the AVAX price market movements without joining the digital asset financial system.
The new initiative represents VanEck’s fourth crypto ETF project, while also maintaining their Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana ETF management. In March 2024, VanEck took a leading role by submitting its first application to create a Solana ETF.
The company started its official path to launch the Avalanche ETF on March 10 by creating the entity as a trust in Delaware. The company labeled their action on March 14 through their VanEck social media channels as evidence of their commitment to run crypto assets.
Other companies besides VanEck show interest in launching AVAX-based ETFs. Nasdaq presented an application to the market on March 28 with Grayscale Investments to launch an Avalanche ETF. The planned fund would start as a closed-end AVAX trust that Grayscale introduced in August 2024.
Institutions show more interest in AVAX but the token declines strongly during 2025. Avalanche token value sank 56% from January to April 2025 due to a crypto industry adjustment. It currently trades at $18 on April 10.
The SEC’s choice on the VanEck Avalanche Trust indicates a possible move from regular markets toward a new way of handling blockchain technologies in this active regulatory environment.
