A dormant wallet believed to belong to Bitcoin’s elusive creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, has received an unexpected transfer of approximately $20,000 in Bitcoin, drawing renewed attention and speculation within the cryptocurrency community.

As per the data provided by blockchain analytics company Arkham Intelligence on Monday, June 30, a transaction comprising 0.185 BTC was received by the long-dormant address. The transfer was especially striking because the wallet had not been active since four months prior.

Satoshi Wallet Activity Fuels Fresh Debate

The surprise decision has elicited a discussion among cryptocurrency fans on social network X. Although some users perceived the transfer as a symbolic action or a “tip” to the Bitcoin creator, others doubted the purpose behind the gesture until it was posed that such offerings of appreciation are not needed since it is a known fact that Nakamoto has his share.

One user said it is useless to send money as “[Satoshi] has already made us all rich.” Some opined that the transfer would infer a deeper relationship that the sender might hold with the mysterious founder.

There is no official clarification on the origin or purpose of the transaction. Yet, community members have compared it to a similar $200,000 transaction conducted earlier this year to the same address, making some observers conclude that it could apply to long-time Bitcoin owners trying to show appreciation.

The identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is unknown but he is estimated to possess around 5% of the total Bitcoin in circulation, measuring around 1.96 million BTC worth around 120 billion. Such immense wealth puts Nakamoto in the top-11 list of the richest people in the world.

Regardless of his anonymity, Nakamoto continues to have ongoing connections with Bitcoin, and any activity involving wallets bearing his name usually provokes mass speculation and interpretation.
