Poșta Română, Romania”s national postal service, has unveiled its first-ever Bitcoin ATM in the city of Tulcea. The initiative is part of a strategic partnership with Bitcoin Romania (BTR), one of the country”s leading cryptocurrency exchanges.

The next phase of installations will happen in Alexandria, Piatra Neamț, Botoșani and Nădlac. The initiative indicates that Poșta Română cares about modernizing its services and helping more people get financial access in underdeveloped and remote areas in Romania.

At this time, more people across the world are adopting Bitcoin bit by bit. Recently, analysts from Binance noted that the number of wallets with more than $100 in Bitcoin rose from 24 million last year to 30 million this year. But across the globe, the number of such wallets is still relatively low.

A recent study, done in Q1 2025 by River, a Bitcoin financial services company, showed that only about 4% of people across the globe have purchased Bitcoin. About 14% of Americans own BTC, which means there’s plenty of space for Europe to increase its engagement with the cryptocurrency.

Although more people are using Bitcoin, experts still remark that it is only a tiny part of the world’s store-of-value market. River believes that Bitcoin’s market cap is more than $2 trillion and the total potential market which covers cash, equities, real estate and art, is valued at $225 trillion.

The initiative by Poșta Română, by offering cryptocurrency services, could greatly increase the use and understanding of digital finance in Eastern Europe.
